abuzz about bisbee
it seems that everywhere i turn people are talking about bisbee, arizona. go figure. and since scott and i are going to visit his mom in arizona next month i am trying to figure out how to get everyone to drive down to see this cute town while we are there. from antique stores on main street and delicious food at cafe roka to underground mine tours and a hike with views of bisbee and mexico this little town seems to have so much to do. and since i have so little time i think i will probably have to go back to do what really intrigues me…sleeping at the shady dell in an vintage airstream trailer!

seriously. i think this is so fun! and dot’s diner at the shady dell is just as retro cute…so i guess even if we don’t have time to stay here i will be eating at dot’s.

art: jim denevan
i just love things that surprise me. and those that make me say wow. jim denevan’s work is both. and it could be that he has his hands in some really cool things. or it could be i was supposed to find this artist (i prefer to believe it was the latter – more on that later). i frst read about denevan’s sand and earth art earlier this month. he is based up in san jose and makes these HUGE drawings on sand and earth that are eventually erased by waves and weather.
his art is bold. and while the circles in this pictures make it kind of whimsical the sheer size and precision of the project can put you in a trance. i keep staring at his art and thinking…how. and then i think wow. at any rate…i continue poking around his website only to see he has a tab called food. and i click on it to find that he is the creator of outstanding in the field. which is this really fun travelling dinner program that i found last week. yeah i had no idea.

outstanding in the field partners with farms from around the country to provide a five-course, locally grown dinner for around 150 people each time. and before dinner you get a tour of the farm so you can see all the workings. i think this could be such a fun date and a great way to get to know and support local farms. fun!

barcelona: mandarin oriental
the husband and i explored barcelona in 2007 and i was absolutely fascinated by the city. the architecture, history, food and shopping had me from the stamp of my passport at customs. i think i was particularly intrigued by barcelona because it is the hometown of one of my favorite architects, antonio gaudi, whose works cover the city. and now i have a reason to return…

there is a new hotel in town, the mandarin oriental. and its restaurant, blanc has captured my love. the ceiling, the chairs, the sofas, the lights, the rugs. i just want to go and sit in this room and breathe it all in. i literally feel completely refreshed after just looking at this room. ahhh. it’s spectacular.
